Literature Text

She was silent and poised, a wild animal in the mist. She stalked gracefully as she watched a butterfly. She wore a necklace with a symbol on it, I'd read long ago the symbol was Tenonbat. From then on I called her Ten. Her white strands moved silently with the wind. Ten. She was a guardian. She watched over me. Ten. She was dangerous, but safe. Ten, more human than anything else. Ten. Maybe a reincarnation. Ten. Maybe a spirt. Ten. She could vanish in the blink of an eye, and return nine blinks later. Ten...was my wild dog, with the eyes of a human, the spirit of the wind, and the knowledge of a girl who suffered.

She followed me to hell and back, caught food and fed me like I was her young. Watched over me as I slept. She was at my beck and call, yet she was unattainable. A proud and graceful white dog. She belonged to a pack, with two males that followed us, as she scared them off, warning them I was not negotiable. Ragornook and Felshonspar, her allies kept her safe as she kept me.

Ten is a ahmak, and a proud to be so. Yet as she hid her emotions as all dogs do, she hid a suffering that was less human everyday.

She found me when I was nine, only a pup herself. Tiny and scared. Probaby nine herself since ahmaks aged like humans. One year after the other and nothing more.

"Who are you? Are you lost?" She just stared at me, at the fire raging through the village behind me, at the dragons who caused it. Looking for others. But there would be no others, I was the only survivor, the only one of eighty. Eighty people in that village, seventy-nine dead. Me, Alek Ruscotio, the last survivor. It fit somehow, a short name. The white ahmak just stared at me. Then ran...only then did I realize how alone I was. But in the morning, somehow she had found me again. With a dead bird in her mouth. She dropped it at my feet, the crawled a safe distance away. That's when I saw her dragon-scale necklace, an ice blue, with a name on it. Tenonbat. But why call her a complicated name? Even if she was highly intelligent...like a human with all knowing eyes but a good enough innocence. So I said "Ten" and she leapt over, licking my face and yipping happily. Ten. My own ahmak.

I was crouched behind a bush, Ten beside me, I could feel her prey drive kicking in. At sixteen I already knew how to fend for myself, how to hunt, how to snare small animals, make shelter, and fire out of nothing, and steal what I need. That is...when I come by civilization. Ten's focus then overtook me, I could see why she was interested now...a proud stag was now walking away from the rest, flaunting his ability to mate and be carefree. A perfect target.

I notched my arrow, sweat beading down my temple and to my jaw, my hair sticking to my face, the smell of grass and pine and honey filling my nose. My thighs ached from being  crouched behind a bush for so long. My jaw was set. I took a deep breath. I released the arrow. It made a sharp whiz sound. I heard a dull thud, and Ten was gone, chasing after whatever she could manage to kill. I pulled out of my crouch and walked to the fallen stag. He was dead. Ten already had a doe in her mouth. It's neck broken already.

She dropped it in front of me and the smell of rust and salt hit my nose. Blood started to pool from it's neck. Ten was small but her teeth were sharp.

"It's yours dummy, take it." I kicked it with my boot and she picked it up and happily pranced over to where Ragornook and Felshonspar waited. She got to eat first because it was her kill, but she never ate it all so Ragornook and Felshonspar got the rest.
I picked the stag up by the antlers and carried it over to my camp. I started the fire and while I cooked the meet I needed, Ten, Nook, and Fel were all chasing birds. Not for food or anything of importance, but for plain fun.

Nook and Fel were both ahmaks, they weren't like Ten who would sleep right next to me every night. They were more loners, but they were loners together. Fel was a big female who lost the tip of her right ear in a fight. She also had a bald scar where no fur growed on her nose she was silver with white stars on her hind-quarters and her shoulders. Nook was a crazy male that had a stupid smile - for lack of better word - on his face everyday, even when he was starving. He also had twitching ears and was a brownish red with white tipped ears and tail.

They followed Ten for an unknown reason and Ten followed me.
I ate my dinner as the stars came out and Nook and Fel retired to a little den nine feet away from my shelter. Ten paced back and forth restlessly. She got bored easily and since her play mates had abandoned her she was agitated. And I could tell because she wanted so desperately for me to play with her. Nudging my elbow and gnawing on my boot.
So I took pity on her and picked up a bone and threw it in the open field. She ran excitedly to retrieve it.

"Oh Ten...you're such a child" I said softly, looking at the stars.

I tied the rest of the meat up, if any bigger creatures came, Ten, Fel, and Nook would scare them away. I knew that for sure. I'd once seen them kill an ogre before. The thing even nastier dead, with green slimy blood and twitching limbs even in death.

I retired to my blanket that served as a bed. Ten was there immediately, ears pressed back and a dopey expression on her face. She was like an arrow right next to me. And then I was asleep. Her fur a war blanket int he cool night.

Harika was a cruel world, people died daily, wars and battles fought all the time, and prophecies foretold of death. But in this world, I got Ten. My beautiful she-dog, who would follow me to the end of time. The most human animal I ever met.

She was odd for a ahmak, her instincts were to stay away from humans, yet she followed me everywhere. I wondered every night how she got her necklace, and why her eyes held so much emotion and though. Fel and Nook didn't have either of these. It was something I knew I knew in the back of my head but couldn't quite grasp. Every time I thought I had it, it eluded me like a spirit and vanished just like that.

The sound of Ten's snoring and the crickets and the soft bable of the creek lulled me to sleep...
Yeah short I know.

But here is the first chapter of my new story, staring Alec and Ten.

Alek and Ten (c) me
I own everything in this story. You can not use these ideas with out my permission y'all.

And those of you wondering.
Ahmak is Turkish for mutt. An Ahmak looks like a mini wolf. They are very human hateful. They are my own creation.

This story takes place in the magical world of Harika, which is again Turkish.
So I hope you like this so far. And yes Alek is extremely hot. I shall draw him soon.
